Gesna Nichols Williams Staff Photo
My name is Gesna Williams.  Before becoming a teacher, I worked as a Deputy Sheriff and a Police Communications Operator.  One day, I decided to commit to my first love, teaching. This is my 9th year of teaching and I love it! I especially love teaching in my home state of Alabama! I recently moved from Mississippi back to Alabama.  I am so glad to be home.  I am a mother of 4.5 children.  They are Dytrich, Tyrek, Morgan, Corey and Rhys (my boxer dog).  I am also a grandmother to two beautiful granddaughters.
When I was in elementary school, I was a very fluent, but extremely fast reader.  I could read really fast without making mistakes.  I read fast but I could not recall anything I had read. When I learned to slow down, get to know the characters, and  pay attention to the intricate details of each story, I soon developed a new appreciation and a fondness for reading. Through reading, I can visit different cultures and experience new adventures.  I can lose myself from the rest of the world in a good book.
My love of reading  gave me ideas of my own.  In middle school, I began keeping a journal and writing down my ideas.  In high school, I began writing short stories and poems.  After graduating high school, I attended college at Bishop State Community College, The University of Mobile, and Nova Southeastern University.  I have received recognition and several awards for my writings and poems.
On my free time, I love attending church, singing, reading, writing, and spending time with my family and friends.
